Consider a scenario where you are having more Customers, Leads and Opportunities and you are not able to handle them alone. So as you want to grow more in your business you need to take care of such things too. For handling this you need to create Users, Teams and Business Unit. In our upcoming blogs we will discuss about users and teams too.
Business Units are the foundation of the Security Structure in Microsoft Dynamics 365. When you create an organization in CRM, Dynamics automatically creates a root business unit for you. This BU is nothing but your organization and it can not be deleted or disabled except you can change the name of the BU.
Once you have root BU, you can create other BU, Teams and Security Roles for identifying your business hierarchy. Using your root BU you can create additional BU to represent important divisions and departments within your business.
For example you can create Business Unit for Sales, Marketing, Customer Service and Field Service. If your business is vast and your organization is organized by region or location then you can further break this BU in sub BU.
- One Business Unit can have only one parent Business Unit but it can have multiple child Business Unit.
- Whenever a user is created in CRM, it is added to root Business Unit first. You can change the Business Unit of user any time. Each user must be associated with at least one Business Unit.
- Each Business unit has a default team. You cannot change the default team's name nor delete the default team.
- You cannot add or remove users from the Business unit's default team. However you can change the user's Business unit to the Business unit and the user will automatically be added to the Business unit's default team.
